Who do you support?
The Mighty Cherries! AFC Bournemouth.
Why do you support them?
I was born just round the coast and when I was old enough to take myself (I don’t come from a football family) to matches I had a 3-way choice. Yeovil, Exeter or Bournemouth. Simply put the transport to games in Bournemouth was the easiest! That was over 10 years ago now and I’ve not looked back!
How often do you get to attend matches?
I now live in Cambridge so not as often as I’d like! We have a separate home and away point system so I go to 10-15 away matches each season. I’ll normally get to Dean Court once or twice a year.
Who is your favourite ever player?
Steve “Supa” Fletcher, a legend of a player for Bournemouth and the only player in England to have a stand named after him while he’s still playing for the club. Not the quickest or best finisher but he scored so many key goals for us it’s hard not to love him!
What win in your lifetime means the most to you?
With so many huge results for us it’s hard to give one! Most AFCB fans would say the home match vs Bolton in 14-15 that won us promotion to the premier league. I’m going to say Grimsby at home at the end of the 08-09 season, it was the defining moment at the end of our “Great escape” season. We went into the season with -17 points in League Two and the Grimsby win allowed us to secure safety on home turf! Everything that followed, including promotion to the premier league is because of that win.
Which goal meant the most?
Steve Fletcher’s goal in the above game. Couldn’t have been a better man to score it!
Outside of that I’d have to give an honourable mention to Atdhe Nuhiu’s goal vs Watford (for Sheffield Wednesday) in 2015, a stoppage time equaliser that won us the Championship title. I was in the Charlton hospitality at the time so don’t remember too much after it went in!
Which team would you most like to beat this season?
Always want to beat Southampton!
Are you happy with your manager?
There is no doubt Eddie Howe is the best manager AFCB has ever had, and likely ever will have. I’d challenge you to find a long-term fan who isn’t!
Are you happy with your Board/Chairman?
Yes, as a fan base we’d always want more but they’ve allowed Eddie to work his magic. My only criticism is the radio silence on the new stadium we so desperately need for the longevity of the Eddie Project.
Where do you realistically think your club will finish this season?
Mid-table, I hope we’ll continue to build on the success of past seasons. What I would love is a cup run now though.
What opposition player do you secretly admire?
Kasper Schmeichel – I grew up watching his dad at United and as a goalkeeper myself I have a lot of time for the men between the sticks. Kasper is one of those keepers that I really enjoy watching as we’ve played him a number of times up and down the leagues. His shot stopping really it top drawer.
Is there a youngster at the club who could become a regular in the side this season?
Jack Simpson, he’s been in and around the first team all last season. He may need an injury ahead of him to get a break however.
Who do you think will be your club’s top FPL points scorer this season?
Since we’ve joined the premier league we’ve had a different top scorer each season, I think this trend will continue again. I’m going to go with Calum Wilson as I think he’ll get quite a few this year.
Can you tell us about your FPL history?
A very mixed bag. I changed e-mail 3 seasons ago so my history doesn’t look the best with a top 150k finish the highlight. Prior to that I had a fair bit of success however.
What would be a successful FPL finish for you this season?
Nothing too glamorous. I’d like a top 100k finish and to avoid the full kit away day forfeit our AFCB group have each year!
What formation do you generally favour for FPL?
3-4-3 traditionally I do chop and change a bit if forced.
What is the biggest lesson you have learned playing FPL?
Strength in depth. You never know when you’ll have a two sub week and these extra points often make the difference at the end. It also allows you to plan your game weeks to ensure you maximise the points. If you’ve got three players never playing you can’t do this.
When did you use your chips last season and was it successful?
Free Hit – Week 10 – Kane was out injured short term if memory serves – 50 point week which while not game changing did save me from a 18 point week otherwise!
Bench Boost – Week 34 – 25 points off the bench so I’d think so!
Triple Captain – Week 37 – Jesus got 12 so a bit of a blank, considering I had Aubameyang as V/C who scored 23!
Anything else we should know about you?
I’ve followed AFCB up and down (mostly down!) the leagues in the past so I’ve been to a lot of grounds. I’m currently on 57 of the 92 and I’d love to tie that up in the next year or so!
